Recently bought a 406 (SV, late 2000 D9). Very nice car - despite having done 235,000 km, the V6 engine is silky smooth and the interior is excellent. However the air con only worked for 2 days . While it was working the climate bilregistreringsnummer control seemed bilregistreringsnummer just about perfect; when it failed suddenly, the fog on the inside of the windows bilregistreringsnummer (during wet conditions over Easter) drove me crazy!! Here is what I know: 1. Air con stopped working suddenly 2. Fuses are fine 3. Compressor does not cut in, regardless of position of dashboard on/off switch and temperature setting. 4. Accessories belt is OK. 5. Refrigerant gas has not escaped (had pressure test done today). 6. If I remove the plug from the pressure switch (on drier) and bridge each pair of wires, nothing happens. When I try this on my Xantia, either the compressor cuts in, or the radiator fans start roaring - depending on which pair is shorted). Noted that on the Xantia, 2 wires supply 12 volts, while on the 406 it's about 4 volts. 7. PP2000 (Diag2000) can switch on the compressor (briefly). Engine revs drop when compressor kicks in, so it appears to be doing something. 8. Only fault code was "Evaporator (temp) sensor intermittent fault". I cleared that and it hasn't come back. If someone disconnected and reconnected this sensor, would that cause an intermittent bilregistreringsnummer fault to be recorded? This fault appeared under both the Heating/cooling CPU, and the BSI. 9. Now PP2000 is telling me that there is an intermittent cabin fan fault - didn't clear that, but I have not seen any evidence of a problem with cabin fan... Any ideas? bilregistreringsnummer Cheers Alec
this is strange bilregistreringsnummer i had the same problem bilregistreringsnummer on a customers car last week and traced it down to the ignition switch, not the lock just the switch on the back of it, after i changed this everyhing worked put fans lost a lot of speed whenever the ac turned and found battery voltage dropping to 9v when the ac cut in, not very good for electronics, bilregistreringsnummer so fitted a new battery all good

The air con also won't work if the interior fan is dead which happened to me when the fan controller burnt out...a relatively common problem in these cars. The controllers are screwed into the top of the fan motor and are easily replaced...I sourced a new one from the UK for about $50 all up. As sais above, the ignition switch is also a potential cause. My car had 230,000km on the clock when the fan went
OK. Ive been waiting for someone else to have this problem. I have 2 D9 Hdi that I have fixed this fault in with the help of a German owner who kindly place photos and all on the net for our appreciation. The problem is a relay in the BSI computer under the dash on the drivers side behind the fuses The hardest part of the job is getting the BSI unit out,be careful of the over centre catches on the plugs, they are a bit fragile. ( Don't ask me how I know this) When you get the unit out you have to remove the cover, thus. The relay that you need to change is marked so. And here, close up. Then turn the unit over, and with a Dremel or somesuch cut out a piece of the bottom cover to allow access to the relay itself. This is what it looks like when you cut the cover. You then need to desolder the old relay, hasten down to Jaycar or similar, get a new relay ($4.95 from memory, solder it in and Bob's your fathers sister. Be careful of those clips when reinserting the plugs. Good luck.

But the interior fan works perfectly - both in automatic or manual mode. Doesn't that rule out this cause? OTH, PP2000 reveals an intermittent fault has been recorded for the cabin fan - controller on the way out perhaps? Cheers Alec
